architecture

We gave our architects, Kevin Fellingham and Nick Hornig a very simple brief: Mooli's are Old Delhi meets Tokyo. They created a clean, bright and seductive space that speaks of 21st century speed and convenience together with a respect for natural materials: timber and stone flooring (which is used in many Indian homes!). Actually, Kevin and Nick had both watched 2001: a Space Odyssey the night before they started drawing (they were inspired by Kubrik’s white, looping spaces that rotate in orbit around the Earth). The sinuous space which they created extends to the street (the Mooli's sign outside becomes the 'raft' ceiling) and a continuous timber table-top sweeps along the northern edge of the space, creating varied 'mooli' settings for interaction: with the street, with friends, a laptop or for just admiring your own reflection in the mirror. The counter stools were Mathew’s idea and the coloured chairs were Sam's idea. The marble crescent tables are a Kevin Fellingham special.

Dan Einzig and Phil Seddon at Mystery helped us understand who we were. They tasted our mooli's, debated with us (should we ever serve chips? No!) and captured what mooli's are (and aren't). The original logo, initial visualizations of the store and many of our strap-lines were a result of their creative talent.

Anita Cooper
You've seen the flash postcards on our homepage. We fell in love with her illustrations at our second meeting. Her incredibly simple menus are so Mooli's. The A-board she designed has drawn in customers by the hundreds. Anita worked many long nights to make sure we had everything ready for opening day!

Mowie
An incredibly passionate and talented photographer, Mowie spent many long sessions shooting our mooli’s and their ingredients. The proof is in the photos on this site, so we won’t say anymore.
